REISE DURCH DIE GESELLSCHAFT
(A TRIP THROUGH SOCIETY)
2004 video, 10:39min

In June 2004 Daniel Beerstecher hitchhiked through Germany for ten days. His route depended on the destinations of the persons who picked him up and thus led him all over Germany. In the video documentation of this work the viewer takes over his position as a fellow-passenger and the different drivers talk about their lives. Among the tellers is a distinguished architect, a Greenpeace activist, a punk and a pensioner from former East Germany. The recordings of the conversations are an intimate insight into the mental state of these persons whose everyday interests and worries truly signify a trip to the mental state of the German society.
